Building a Legacy of Faith
This powerful message challenges us to examine the spiritual foundation we're building not just for ourselves, but for generations to come. Drawing from Psalms 127 and Matthew 7, Pastor Wendi Frye reminded that our children are not accidents or mere additions to our lives—they are divine gifts, arrows in the hands of a warrior, entrusted to us by God Himself.
The central question becomes: What kind of legacy are we leaving? Are we simply raising successful children, or are we building spiritually grounded individuals who know God personally? The sermon uses the vivid imagery of the wise and foolish builders to illustrate a critical truth: storms will come to every life, but only those built on the rock of Christ's word will stand. What's particularly convicting is the distinction between hearing God's word and doing it. We can attend church, quote scripture, and appear spiritually mature, yet if we're not applying God's truth to our daily decisions, we're building on sand. The horseback riding story perfectly captures this—we can think we know better than God's instructions, but eventually, pressure reveals whether we've truly listened. Our children are watching how we respond when life gets uncertain, when answers aren't immediate, when the floor starts to dip and the walls begin to crack.
The legacy of faith isn't measured by what we leave behind in material wealth, but by what continues to live in hearts long after we're gone.
